Call for Entries

2008 Dan R. Brown ACI Awards Program

The Georgia Chapter, American Concrete Institute and co-sponsor Georgia Concrete & Products Association invite you to submit an entry in the 2008 Dan R. Brown ACI Awards Competition.  This annual award recognizes and honors creative, innovative, aesthetic and imaginative uses of concrete and concrete masonry in new construction and concrete restoration projects completed between January 1, 2007 and October 31, 2008.

Eligibility
All architects, engineers, contractors, developers and industry-related professionals are eligible to enter this competition
 
Awards Categories
Projects must be of predominately concrete construction which may be cast-in-place, precast, prestressed or post-tensioned concrete or concrete masonry.
 
The Award Categories are as follows:

Low-Rise Buildings, 1-4 stories - Includes office buildings, public buildings, apartments, hotels, etc.

Mid-Rise Buildings, 5-9 stories - Same as above

High-Rise Buildings, 10 stories and above - same as above

Industrial - Includes warehouses, factory buildings, etc.

Public Works other than Buildings* - Includes bridges, stadiums, environmental structures, etc.

Paving - Includes unique paving projects and architectural and concrete masonry pavements.

Residential - Homes constructed using concrete and/or concrete products.

Restoration - Projects that begin with an existing structure and are modified for either aesthetic or structural purposes.

Special* - Includes small residential, restoration and other concrete projects not fitting in above categories.

Environmental - Projects that demonstrate efforts to integrate environmentally responsible design methods and materials.

Hardscapes - Exterior landscaping enhance or created using concrete or concrete products.

*More than one first place may be awarded for greatly different types of structures. A large number of entries in a category may require the creation of sub-categories.

Entry Requirements
All entries must contain an entry form, photographs, digital photos (jpg) and a written description of the project.
 
1. Entry Form: All information requested on the form must be completed. An entry form will be sent with the binder.
 
2. Photographs: Two or more professional quality 8" x 10" color prints of various views showing the project. These photos will be used by the judges in scoring the entries. All photographs must be cleared for use by Georgia Chapter, ACI.
 
3. Digital Photos: Four or more color digital images of the project with written descriptions of each. Images of each entry will be used during the awards presentation at the Awards Banquet. They will be returned within 30 days after the banquet.
 
4. Description: Explanation of design concept, problems and solutions, aesthetic studies, project economics and any unique or innovative aspects of the project. Include 11" x 17" drawings showing elevation and typical details if available.
 
5. Entry Fee: The entry fee for each project will be $95.00. This will include one admission to the Awards banquet, including dinner.
 
Method of Presentation
Each submitter will be sent an 8-1/2" x 11" binder, containing transparent window sleeves for displaying inserts back to back. Incomplete entries cannot be accepted.
 
Judging
Entries will be judged by a jury composed of experts in design, architecture, construction and restoration. The jury will review all entries and decision will be based only on the entry data information and material submitted by each entrant. No on-site judging will take place.
 
Awards
The winners will be notified in December 2006. Award presentations will be made to the winners at the Chapter Awards Banquet on January 17, 2008 at the Sheraton Buckhead Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia.
